More than a Game: Tyriek & Mr. Jason go 1 on1

tyriek

This morning was a huge deal for TyRiek in Le Moyne College! This dolphin has made great improvements in his attitude and effort over the past few weeks here at KIPP Tech Valley.  At KIPP we always talk about, "It is not about where you are coming from, but about where you are going."  TyrRiek earned a game of basketball with me, his homeroom teacher.  He earned this by earning his shirt and improving his grades.  So we got to play 1 on 1!  This picture says it all! This was much more than a simple game of basketball! It has inspired TyRiek to focus on his self-control, better himself with his academic progress, and has solidified a great relationship between student and teacher. I have never see a kid more excited or smile more!! Just awesome! Kippsters, "When you make good choices, good things happen."  I am very proud of you TyRiek!  -Mr. Jason

Grade 5 ELA Reading: Most Improved INT 3

Over the past interval there have been some tremendous improvements in Choices ELA 5 reading class.  I wanted to take a moment to recognize the grit and effort of the following Kippsters who improved big time in reading during the past interval.  A huge shout out to:

Le Moyne Dolphins: Samai M. (+8%), Zamari T. (+9%)

St. Rose Golden Knights: Hafsa A. (+6%), Jalijah C. (+6%), NaQuavere T. (+17%), Iyana W. (+9%)

Oswego Lakers: Harmony B. (+22%), TyRisse B. (+7%), Emiya B. (+8%), Kercel M. (+11%), Tiana V. (+12%)

I am exceptionally proud of each and every one of you.  As the great Michael Jordan says, "I have always believe, if you put in the work, the results will come."  You put in a tremendous amount of hard work and the results show that!  Keep up the good work heading into interval 4.  I applaud you!  -Mr. Jason

KIPP Tech Valley gives back during the Holiday Season

This week KIPP Tech Valley Charter School teacher leaders volunteered at the Albany City Mission to help serve the community meal and give back during the holiday season.  We greatly enjoyed preparing the meal, serving the guests, and working with all of those at the Mission.  A huge shout out to Mr. Pina, Ms. Yonkers, Ms. Wardell, Ms. Suzy, Ms. Maria, and Mr. Jason who joined in the efforts to cheer up members of the Albany community through a delicious meal and conversation.  May your holiday season be merry and bright!
